Busy few days - July 30, 2022 (imported from Facebook)

Saturday afternoon update 

 I know I haven't posted in a few days, we have actually been busy (for me), and I've gotten pretty tired in the afternoons... 

 Thursday morning I helped cook breakfast, but that turned out to be too much for me. It didn't help that there was a little bit of an oil fire when I was trying to explain to Jack how to do something. So blood pressure was raised more than normal that day... 🤕 So food delivery gift cards are a much loved gift for when William Wen takes Jack to Taiwan in a few weeks... 

 I had my post-op check up on Thursday afternoon. With chemo in the middle, I have to remember that I had a bunch of my innards removed two weeks ago. The Dr says I'm looking good and to come back at 12 weeks after for a final checkup. I did have some of the ascites (fluid) get into my fatty layer near some of the incisions, so that will take a little longer to go away. 😕 

 I was reminded at this appointment that that hysterectomy made my hormones go crazy too, so it explains some times when I get flushed for no apparent reason. It's really fun trying to figure out if something is because of hormones, surgery, or chemo... 

 I also stopped in for a quick blood draw where I will be going for my future chemo treatments. I hate blood, and I was nervous about accessing the port since I didn't know what to expect. But it wasn't bad at all, and so much better than them searching for a vein. I still have bruises from two weeks ago and them trying to put in IVs or draw blood. I still haven't figured out my neck range of motion with this port so close to it... It is definitely giving me a stiff neck. 

 Since we were in Bellevue, Wil was able to pick up his new laptop after my appointment. When he retired almost two years ago, he had to return his work laptop, so he had been using mine when he needed one. So I finally have my laptop back to myself also... 😂 

 I napped once we got home, it was just too much for me for one day. 

 Friday was my mom's birthday, happy birthday Joann Schlenger ! She really likes Mexican food, so we decided to go out for lunch to a restaurant. It's been mid-90s all week, so it isn't the most comfortable being outside. We had a good lunch, but we also needed to stop at Safeway on the way home. With doing those two things right in the row, plus with the outside heat added in, that was too much for me. I was pretty tired the rest of the day. 

 That evening, there was a video call for Jack and his Taiwan scholarship. It was meeting others from the west coast that have received the scholarships and talking about what to expect getting to Taiwan and things like that. It seemed like he was the only one who just graduated high school. Jack made a cheesecake for Mom's birthday since that is another of her favorites, so that was dessert. 🥰🥰🥰 

 Today will be low-key. Wil has something with a friend, and Jack has something with his friends, but the rest of us are staying home. I'm so glad our AC works when it's so hot out. 

 I've been receiving lots of fun gifts in the mail, thank you friends. We have also received food gift cards, which will be well used when Wil and Jack leave for Taiwan in 3 weeks 😱 Amazing how my kiddo is going to start college soon...

Update after a long time

How are you doing? Simple question, but as someone with cancer, its sometimes a difficult question to answer. Do you want a simple answer, or the whole answer? I've struggled with the answer recently. I normally say "Fine" or "Great" or something along those lines. But you know what? I'm not really fine or great. I've been meaning to write an update for a month or so, and I know there are lots of family and friends that have been looking for one. This is going to be a long read, so settle in, maybe grab a tissue... I'm not going to lie. It's been tough. My CA 125 number was climbing even before finishing the previous treatment cycle, so that's not a surprise. But it continues to climb, and thats what I hate. I hate having that number bigger and bigger every time they draw blood. Chemo cycle 4, infusion 1 was Monday 12/18

So I had my infusion day 1 of cycle 4 this past Monday, December 18th. Since Alex is on break from school, he came with me for chemo. I think it was a good day for him to go since they had holiday cookies out to share 😂  Chemo went fine Monday, and I felt fine on Tuesday. But Wednesday really knocked me out. The accumulation of chemo and side effects really hit me. I couldn't eat, I actually wound up throwing up, which I haven't done in years. Thursday wasn't much better other than I didn't throw up. I wasn't able to eat much other than some toast and applesauce. Something is affecting my face and giving me really puffy eyes. Not sure if it's the chemo or something else. Today, I'm definitely feeling better. Alex and I went out and ran a few errands before the weekend. And for some more good news, my CA 125 number is down to 18.7 which is the middle of normal range 🎉🎉🎉 We will have my infusion day 2 of this cycle next Tuesday, Dec...

May 18, 2024 - Current plan and things going on recently

First, I want you all to know that I love and appreciate everyone that thinks about me or reaches out. I feel fine. I don't feel like I have cancer. But its still here. It hasn't gone away like we had hoped. The thing with ovarian cancer is that when its stage 3+ and/or high grade serous (which mine was), it doesn't always go away. It might be something that goes into remission for a few months or a few years and then needs to be treated again. I had about 8 months between my first chemo rounds finishing and it coming back. I had hoped for more time in between. But it is what it is. I then went away last summer knowing it was back. I knew before I left for Taiwan and Japan, but I wanted to live my life. I felt fine, and the doctors and I all agreed it was fine. When I got back from my summer travels last year in September, we started again. We just finished that up in March, but its back again. I have been on the maintenance infusion every 3 weeks, but my CA 125 has also be...
